Saudi’s Red Sea Global Sets up Largest EV Charging Network

Phase one includes more than 150 charging stations spread across The Red Sea destination area.

Red Sea Global (RSG), the multi-project developer responsible for Amaala and The Red Sea, has announced the achievement of a major milestone by finalising the installation of the largest off-grid electric vehicle (EV) charging network in the kingdom.

This network includes over 150 strategically positioned charging stations within the first phase of The Red Sea destination area.

“Our ambition to combine sustainability and luxury like never before takes a new form as we drive The Red Sea into the future of next-gen, smart mobility, fully powered by sunlight,” John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, said highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainability and luxury.

The charging stations will support Red Sea Global’s initial fleet of 80 electric vehicles, including the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Lucid Air models, offering exclusive transportation options to guests staying at The Red Sea.

These vehicles will be available for use during various travel needs, including airport transfers and exploring the destination’s resorts and facilities, all through advanced bookings or on-demand services.

The infrastructure required to maintain and operate this electric fleet is now in place, including a mobility hub that is expected to create 1,500 new job opportunities. These roles, such as chauffeurs, hub managers, skilled technicians, and EV charging specialists, aim to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s future mobility sector while empowering local communities.

As part of RSG’s broader goal to achieve carbon neutrality when fully operational, The Red Sea is set to become the world’s largest destination powered solely by renewable energy.

This feat is made possible through the deployment of five solar farms, equipped with 760,000 photovoltaic panels, supplying energy not only to the EV fleet but also to the charging network.

“Red Sea Global heralds a new era of cutting-edge mobility with Saudi Arabia’s premier luxury EV fleet marking a milestone in sustainable transportation,” Andreas Flourou, Group Head of Mobility at Red Sea Global added highlighting the significance of this achievement.

Moreover, plans are in motion to introduce Saudi Arabia’s first fleet of carbon-neutral electric buses for staff transportation at The Red Sea.

The destination is exploring sustainable transport solutions across various modes, including e-bikes, vans, trucks, yachts, ferries, boats, maintenance vehicles, airside vehicles, and off-road leisure pursuit vehicles.

The Red Sea is set to receive its first guests this year, with the operational launch of the Red Sea International Airport and the availability of the first two hotels for bookings.

By 2030, upon full completion, The Red Sea destination will comprise 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms, more than 1,000 residential properties, luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, dining, and leisure facilities, solidifying its position as a landmark destination in the region.
