Nakheel Begins Palm Jebel Ali Development, Securing $220.5 Million for Marine Infrastructure

Dubai, UAE, August 26, 2024 – Nakheel, the master developer and subsidiary of Dubai Holding, has officially begun infrastructure work on the highly anticipated Palm Jebel Ali project. The company has awarded contracts worth a total of $220.5 million (AED810 million) to several key partners, marking a significant milestone in the development of Dubai's latest luxury waterfront destination.

In a recent announcement, Nakheel confirmed the award of a major contract to Jan De Nul Dredging LTD, a Belgian company, to carry out extensive marine works on Palm Jebel Ali. This contract involves dredging, land reclamation, beach profiling, and sand placement, essential activities that will directly support the construction of luxury villas across the Palm's fronds. Mobilisation for these marine works has already commenced, with the entire scope expected to be completed in just over two years.

The project also includes the construction of essential infrastructure to connect Palm Jebel Ali with the mainland. DBB Contracting LLC has been awarded a contract for the construction of a public access road that will link Sheikh Zayed Road to the Palm and a construction road serving the central portion of the island. Additionally, Khansaheb Civil Engineering LLC, a subsidiary of Khansaheb Group, has secured the contract for roadway and lighting enhancements to Al Hesah Street at Dubai Waterfront, providing seamless connectivity to Palm Jebel Ali.

Khalid Al Malik, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding Real Estate, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating: “Today, we proudly announce the appointment of DBB Contracting and Khansaheb Civil Engineering as our partners for the next phase of development at Palm Jebel Ali. Alongside these best-in-class partners, we are not only ensuring the highest standards of urban infrastructure for our customers, but also contributing to the realization of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. This partnership reaffirms our commitment to raising the global benchmark in waterfront living, making Palm Jebel Ali a coveted address for approximately 35,000 families in the future.”

The first eight fronds of Palm Jebel Ali are expected to be site-ready by the first quarter of 2025, when villa infrastructure and civil works will commence.

The development will ultimately span 13.4 kilometers, featuring 16 fronds and 91 kilometers of pristine beachfront. The initial phase of the project will see the handover of the first set of 700 villa units, scheduled for 2026.

Palm Jebel Ali is poised to become an integral part of Dubai's future urban landscape, aligned with the emirate's broader development plans, including the expansion of Dubai South and the Expo 2020 areas. The palm-shaped island will offer ultra-luxury waterfront residences and leisure destinations, setting a new standard for waterfront living in Dubai.
